According to researcher, Nick Sullivan a security researcher at Symantec Corp., privacy settings on social networking websites like Facebook are missleading and can give a false sense of security. phishing is a criminal activity using social engineering techniques. Phishers attempt to fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication. Privacy protection on social networking sites

Social networking sites like Myspace, FaceBook, LiveJournal, etc do next to nothing to protect privacy. It’s basically all up to the user to protect themselves, but many don’t see the downfall to placing very personal information on these sites.
